DAVIS, OK – Is named after Samuel H. Davis, who moved into what was then known as Indian Territory in 1897. Davis owned a dry goods store and he successfully petitioned for a Santa Fe railroad depot and a U.S. Post Office to be built near his store. Thus, that has how Davis OK, got its name.
The town was an agricultural community known in the early 1900s as the best cotton growing area of Oklahoma. Later, when Interstate 35 was built just 2 miles west of Davis, the area’s tourism business took off and today the town is known more for its outdoor attractions, chocolates, and, now, according to House Beautiful, it’s the most beautiful small town in Oklahoma to live. Davis is located in scenic south-central Oklahoma and is home to Turner Falls Park, one of the state’s tallest waterfalls that drops 77 feet into a refreshing swimming hole. Full of wildflowers and breathtaking scenery, both Turner Falls Park and the Arbuckle Mountains are popular camping areas in this region of Oklahoma, including the nearby Chickasaw National Recreational Area.
